Metal Wind Chime

A metal wind chime is a good choice for outdoor use. Usually, a metal wind chime won't require any special care. It can be hung in a favorite spot and enjoyed for many years to come. The most common metals used for a metal wind chime are steel, brass, copper and aluminum.

Steel is commonly used in making a metal wind chime, but unless you choose stainless steel, it will corrode over time. Brass gives a metal wind chime an attractive look and sound and because it is so easy to work with, is often used to form part of a chime, even if it isn't used for the musical components. You'll find brass adds a great look to both indoor and outdoor chimes.

Copper tubing is probably the least expensive of the four metals. It can used to make an attractive metal wind chime, but the elements will tarnish the copper over time. Some people like the patina that copper gets. Some chime enthusiasts do claim that when the copper tarnishes, the sound quality of the metal wind chime changes.

Aluminum is a very popular choice for a metal wind chime. Wind chime specialists will often use it exclusively. It is the easy to tune in a wide range of pitches. Of the four metals, aluminum is probably the most expensive, but it is a superior metal for outdoor resilience.
