How to Make a Wind Chime

how to make a wind chime Homemade wind chimes can be fun to make. For an easy homemade project that children will enjoy, you'll want to visit your local arts and crafts store and stock up on little terra cotta pots. To make a simple terra cotta wind chime, you'll want to use terra cotta pots in descending sizes and follow these simple steps:

1. Start with a 2 inch pot, and then go to 1 inch, ½ inch and ¼ inch.

2. Using 3-ply twine or string, tie a knot in one end and wrap some tape around the other end for easier 'threading' through the pots.

3. An adult can supply hazelnuts or pecans that have holes drilled through them. You can substitute small wooden doll heads. These will clang against the terra cotta pot wind chime once they are hanging.

4. As you string each terra cotta pot through, make sure you tie a knot to hold it in place. You'll need one knot inside each pot and another for each nut. The end of the string can be decorated with other nuts.

The homemade terra cotta wind chimes will look like a string of bells, each slightly overlapping the next.

Adults might want to try their hand at a bamboo wind chime. You should be able to find bamboo stalks for your wind chime at an import store or check out the garden section of your local hardware store. Here's what you'll need:
